A board game designed by young people, for young people to provide information about debt, budgeting and making the best decisions.

Young people have to make lots of financial decisions. There's mobile phone plans to choose, public transport to pay for, they may have to pay rent or board and for some young people there are drug, alcohol or gambling issues to deal with.

Sometimes young people don't have the knowledge or support to help them make these decisions well. In particular, young people who are homeless or disconnected from school.

In 2002 Melbourne Citymission began working with a corporate partner, TATE and a group of young homeless people to look at the needs of the group, and what they thought would have helped them avoid debt and financial hardship.

The young people came up with the idea of creating a board game to show young people the impact of their decisions and help them develop skills to prevent falling into debt in the future.

The result is Another Day Another Dollar.

Another Day Another Dollar board

Another Day Another Dollar can played by up to 8 people and is aimed at year 7-12 students. The game encourages players to make financial, social and education or employment decisions - and then demonstrates the impacts of those decisions. Each player is assigned a character and each character has issues that they need to deal with.

Another Day Another Dollar is available free of charge (limited number available) for a short time to schools, youth services, community development agencies and educators. It's a great tool to start the conversation about financial literacy with young people and a great game to play.
