Community Integration and Accommodation Options
Community Integration and Accommodation Options provides accommodation and support services to young people on statutory orders who are exiting residential services in the North West Region, Department of Human Services. The young people are aged between 15 and 18 years old and often present with challenging and complex issues.
Melbourne Citymission’s C.I.A.O. program uses the Lead Tenant model of service. Lead Tenants are volunteers who are recruited in the same way as staff members. Lead Tenants live on the property with young people for five nights per week and provide practical supports and a positive role model.
Lead Tenants live rent-free (the program pays for utilities), receive professional support and supervision and are required to abide by Melbourne Citymission’s policy and procedures as relating to volunteers. The C.I.A.O. program manages a number of properties within the Northern region from the inner city to outer suburbs.
