Befriending the Elderly — Community Visitors Scheme
The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is an Australian Government funded program established to promote links between people living in an Aged Care Home and the wider community.
The CVS aims to enrich the quality of life of residents of aged care homes who may be socially isolated or lonely.
Volunteers are matched to a resident living in a government funded aged care facility, for the purposes of companionship and friendship.
CVS volunteers are required to visit their resident each fortnight but are encouraged to make their visits more frequent if they wish. The amount of time spent with their resident/friend is determined by the resident and volunteer. The most important factor is the regularity of the visits.
CVS volunteers work independently building their friendship and we encourage our volunteers to seek advice when needed.
