Boxing champion packs a punch

Melbourne Citymission’s Youth Enterprise Hub (YEH) in Braybrook welcomed one of the world’s top ranked middleweights Sam Soliman to a recent ‘Choices’ workshop.

Nearly 40 young men, mostly from the Horn of Africa, gathered at YEH to take part in this workshop, which was facilitated by Sam and his entourage. The main topics discussed throughout the evening included behaviour and emotional choices, the consequences of knife carrying and violence.

The group worked through different interactive scenarios, with some commenting that they could now see the connection between making an emotional decision and how that choice could change a life forever. The young men were enthralled with Sam’s presence and listened intently, spellbound by his talk. A staff member commented: "I think this is the first time I've ever seen so many young men here at YEH, while it's been this quiet!"

Melbourne Citymission's gambling prevention project (Risky Business) and the Diversion Diversity program joined forces to plan and host this successful event. Congratulations to Melbourne Citymission staff members Connie, Amanda and Aaron for all their amazing efforts in developing such an impactful event and for all their continued great work in Braybrook.
