Every Australian Counts - DisabiliTEA
In support of Every Australian Counts, the campaign for the introduction of a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Melbourne Citymission held their very own DisabiliTEA at their King Street office on Tuesday 02 August.
The tea was in participation of over 900 DisabiliTEA events that took place on 02 August nationwide, co-ordinated by The National Disability and Carer Alliance; the biggest action so far in the largest disabilities campaign ever conducted in Australia. The tea was an opportunity for the community to get together in cities, towns and suburbs right across the nation and flags the start of the next phase of the campaign; it also coincides with the delivery of the Final Report of the Productivity Commission to the Government on 31 July.
The proposed NDIS will revolutionise the way people with a disability, their families and carers are supported in Australia. It has the potential to transform the way services are funded and delivered, ensuring people are better supported and enabling them to have greater choice and control.
Melbourne Citymission staff took time out of their busy day to enjoy a cup of tea and snacks in support of the campaign and to help create further awareness of the NDIS throughout the organisation.
