Melbourne Academy - Providing Education Pathways

Melbourne Citymission has a vision to educate every young person who is disadvantaged in the heart of Melbourne.
In order to move towards this vision, Melbourne Citymission is creating the ‘Melbourne Academy’ which will deliver educational programs to some of Melbourne’s most disengaged students.
Driven by the Employment, Education and Training division, the Academy programs will be run at multiple locations across Melbourne including King Street and North Fitzroy (The Precinct).
Current programs included in the Academy are the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL, an applied alternative to VCE, run in partnership with SKYS), VET certificates (Vocational Education and Training) in music and media industries, general education, job readiness and community services, as well as Wheels, a pre-employment program.
In February 2012, as part of the Melbourne Academy’s development, a brand new classroom will open at King Street. Creating a relaxed adult environment, the new program run from this space will offer vocational training for young people, around the theme of media and music. The program will be integrated with Frontyard and run in partnership with SKYS. For more details please on the attachment below..
Melbourne Academy is one of the most exciting developments in Melbourne Citymission’s history. It brings together a network of teachers, social support staff and students to form a learning community that seeks to help students become contributing citizens in Melbourne and beyond.
Long term, it is envisaged that the Academy will provide educational support to young people from the age of 15 years and right throughout their lifetime journey of education.
Melbourne Citymission
Melbourne Citymission works with people experiencing disadvantage across Melbourne and Victoria. Every week we help thousands of people build a clear pathway away from economic exclusion and social isolation.
Our services support:
- people to find a pathway out of homelessness
- people with a disability to get the resources and support they need to live the life they want
- people to break the cycle of poverty and abuse
- people to find jobs, or enter into education and training.
