Working hand in hand with the BRAT

Melbourne Citymission and the Broadmeadows Residents Action Team (BRAT) recently welcomed the official launch of improvements to the Olsen Place shopping area. The improvements made by Hume Council included new seating, lights, shade sails and public art.

The launch was opened by the Mayor of Hume, Helen Patsikatheodorou, who welcomed the crowd and Melbourne Citymission staff helped run various events on the day, including a children’s farm, a series of musical performances and a visit from the police and emergency services.

Melbourne Citymission Breakfast Club employees, who make nutritious breakfasts for children at Meadows Primary School, also provided platters of healthy food on the day.
The event was organised in conjunction with a number of community partners including the Meadows Primary School, Women’s Neighbourhood House, Hume Council, Dallas Neighbourhood House and other local community providers.

The Broadmeadows community has been supported by Melbourne Citymission for the past eight years through the Neighbourhood Renewal Project and we are now working with BRAT in carrying forward the work forward of the renewal project.

The BRAT group has also created a partnership with the local Bunnings store to create a mural in Olsen Place, representing the history of the local community.

Joanne Moore, Breakfast Club Co-ordinator, Maureen Leahy, Meadows Primary School, Tom Worsnop, Melbourne Citymission, Sally Richter, Melbourne Citymission and members of the local community enjoying the launch.
