Homeless young people need a future - Doyle
Robert Doyle, if elected Lord Mayor, will act to secure the future of Melbourne's homeless young people.
"Melbourne needs clean and safe accommodation for homeless young people and so one of first my jobs will be to find a suitable building," Mr Doyle said.
"I want to partner this project with some of the services already working to help our homeless youth like Frontyard, Melbourne City Mission and the Salvation Army."
The City of Melbourne's existing relationship with Frontyard Youth Services will be strengthened if I am elected Lord Mayor."
"I was privileged to be taken on a tour of the CBD by an inspirational young man, Russell Kelly, who was homeless and has slept rough but now is getting his life back together."
"It's these real-life stories where you can see young people lifted from despair and marginalisation which show that compassion and practical youth services can make the difference."
"I would like to see a dedicated building in central Melbourne offering a combination of emergency, medium and long-term accommodation and support for between 25 and 50 young people."
"Giving a helping hand to homeless and marginalised young people can turn their life around and give them the skills and the confidence to get back on their feet"
"Once we have found a building, converting it for use will be a big job and I'll be asking the construction industry and the unions to get involved so that it's a real partnership and so we can get it right."
