Family Reconciliation Mediation Program

Family Reconciliation Mediation Program (FRMP) is a Statewide community-development and brokerage program that assists young people who are at risk of homelessness or are experiencing homelessness to improve their relationship to family and significant others.

Who does the program support?

The program works:

  • with young people aged from 15 to 25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness
  • directly with homelessness support workers.
How does the program work?

We:

  • strengthen the homelessness service sector’s (HSS) capacity to improve young peoples' relationships with their families and where possible facilitate a connection to their family
  • develop and integrate into the broader HSS new practice models and tools to work with young people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness
  • provide a statewide family mediation and reconciliation response.

FRMP provides:

  • family-focussed interventions for areas that do not have mediation and reconciliation services for young people
  • brokerage funds for workers to access, for clients in areas of reconciliation, mediation and other types of interventions that support young people to improve their relationship with their family
  • professional development for workers in family mediation and reconciliation interventions.
