Placed Based Services — Darebin, East Reservoir
Using a Community Development approach Melbourne Citymission’s Place Based Services work in partnership with key stakeholders and people living in the East Reservoir area to improve outcomes for children and their families. This means that we listen to people and work with them to develop programs, services and responses that meet their need.
In East Reservoir we run:
- a Breakfast Club
- a Learning Club
- holiday programs
- a playgroup.
We also:
- have a leadership role in the East Reservoir Neighbourhood Renewal
- auspice an Employment and Learning Co-ordinator.
The Breakfast Club
The Breakfast Club provides children with a nutritious breakfast to help them optimise their learning during the school days while creating paid employment and training opportunities for local residents, many of whom have little or no work history.
The Learning Club
The Learning Club supports children who are experiencing difficulty at school, either academically or socially. Each participant is matched with a volunteer tutor to support them in a range of educational activities and instil a sense of enjoyment facilitated by learning.
The playgroup
The playgroup provides children with opportunities to:
- make friends
- learn new skills and practise social skills in preparation for the transition to kindergarten and school.
Through participating in the playgroup, parents are able to meet other parents living in their local area, find out about other early childhood services and gain informal support to assist them in their parenting role.
