Family Reconciliation Mediation Program (FRMP)

Family Reconciliation Mediation Program (FRMP) is a state-wide program established in 2005 through the Youth Homelessness Action Plan (YHAP) for young people aged 15 – 25 years of age experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
FRMP works closely with the Homelessness Service Sector (HSS) in supporting young people to improve their relationship with their family/significant others through therapeutic interventions such as, family mediation/conferencing and individual counselling.
The objectives of these interventions are to support young people to:
- Remain or return home if safe and appropriate
- Remain connected to family/significant others in some capacity
- Reconcile within themselves through therapeutic interventions
Statement of Purpose
FRMP is committed to youth-focused, family inclusive practice in our work with the Homelessness Service Sector, the community and families.
We believe this approach allows us to focus on the young person’s needs while engaging with the family to work towards reconciliation and improving reconnection.
Brokerage
Funding is available for workers in the Specialist Homelessness Services (formally known as SAAP), including refuges and Creating Connections, to support young people in seeking therapeutic interventions.
Capacity Building
FRMP has a significant focus on community capacity building. Through FRMP’s capacity building initiative, professional training development is provided for workers in HSS and supports to strengthen the profile of family reconciliation and mediation.
Who is this for?
FRMP is for young people 15-25 years of age experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
