Kids shouldn't grow up on the street
Did you know
- 23,000 people in Victoria are homeless on any given night
- 7,000 of them are young people aged between 12 and 24 years
- 18,500 children attended homeless services in Victoria in 2005-06
- 70% of them are under 10 years of age
Breaking out of the cycle of homelessness is not easy and for young people it can be even more difficult. Most have lost the support systems that many of us take for granted. They are usually isolated from family, school, and employment, and all their time and energy is taken up finding somewhere to sleep, something to eat or navigating a complex support services system.
- Melbourne Citymission assists over 4,000 people across its full range of programs each week.
- Over two weeks in July 2007, Melbourne Citymission youth workers had 360 requests for emergency accommodation. There are only 30 ‘youth specific’ beds across the whole state.

Melbourne Citymission offers young people more than just a place to stay. We focus on getting them back on track. By supporting this campaign you are helping Melbourne Citymission to provide much needed support to Melbourne’s young people. Programs offer life skills, mediation, employment, education and training options for young people to break the cycle of homelessness and become active members of the community.
Please donate and support our work with young people throughout the year.
