Stacy's story

Stacy found herself in a desperate situation. After ending a bad relationship, and with a baby to care for, found herself alone and unable to pay the rent.

With nowhere to go, Stacy and her baby son Samuel ended up living in a caravan park. It was full of drugs and violence.

Stacy says, "I was desperate to get out of there. It was no place for any kid. You blame yourself."

Finally, she came to Melbourne Citymission. Initially, we were able to provide counselling, and support for Stacy in caring for Samuel. Eventually we found her a stable home where her son can be safe and has room to play, and gradually, Stacy is feeling more positive about the future.

There are many people just like Stacy and Samuel who are not so lucky. Many end up on our streets- and there are not enough support services to help. As winter approaches, it's critical that we reach more people in crisis.

Melbourne Citymission can help with accommodation, counselling, education and training, and services that combine to provide a pathway out of homelessness and disadvantage.
