Homework Support Program
We need volunteers to spend a maximum of 1 1/2 hours per week with a group of primary and/or high school students who need support with their homework.
Children in our learning clubs may need extra help with reading, numeracy or social skills and may be experiencing learning difficulties.
Our learning clubs aim to provide a safe, comfortable environment for the children. Each group meets once a week, after school hours, at the following locations:
- Broadmeadows Learning Club - Meadowbanks Primary School (Monday), starting July 06;
- Hume Learning Club - Global Learning Centre Broadmeadows (Tuesday),
- Northcote Learning Club- Northcote Library (Wednesday), and
- Reservoir East Primary School After School Activities Group (Wednesday).
Each volunteer tutor works on a one-to-one basis with a student to assist them with their homework. The skills needed by each volunteer tutor include:
- Effective communication and listening skills,
- Reliability,
- Empathy,
- Literacy and numeracy skills adequate to support school students, and
- A commitment to developing the educational skills of children.
Volunteer tutors are asked to commit to the group once a week for the school year (term time only).
