It’s just such a rewarding job sometimes.

Working at Frontyard can be a really rewarding job sometimes: sometimes you just never know what is going to happen in the course of a day.
At one stage we had to call an ambulance for a young person who was taken ill. And then later on a few clients got a bit restless and one of us staff needed to go to talk to them to calm them down a bit. But it's all in a day's work here at Frontyard, and our training prepares us for must of the things we encounter.
Today was also a day where there were heaps of cold and hungry young people coming in. Some of them wanted to see the health service and others Melbourne Youth support services (MYSS). Our health services at Frontyard are a great resource. We have nurses, doctors, a counsellor and even a dentist all available on site. Young people don't need to have an appointment; they can just drop in. MYSS is for accommodation, legal and drug and alcohol issues that a young person may be having.
We also had young people who are homeless coming is to see about study. If you don't have a permanent place to sleep it can be really hard to keep up with your education. Some of these young people were pregnant, so for them it can be really hard to deal with this and homelessness all at the same time.
And then as the day was dragging on, a couple of people from Melbourne Victory Soccer Team showed up to do a photo-shoot for our PJ day; so that got the young people who were here at the time pretty excited. Some of the young people were able to have their photos taken with the players and possibly be in the newspaper.
