  • Accessible to people who hold a current Learner's Permit and have a connection to the Port Phillip, Stonnington or Bayside local government areas.

The Melbourne City Mission L2P Program is a community-based program that supports young people who face significant barriers to completing 120 hours of on-road driving experience.

The program is supported by trained volunteer mentors.

How does it work?

The goal is for you to gain extensive on-road experience to build your skills and confidence.

You are matched with trained volunteer mentors who support you to gain 120 hours of supervised driving.

The volunteer mentors are given intensive training by VicRoads and undergo mandatory checks and training with MCM to provide a quality program for young people.

Eligible young people are offered a minimum of one hour of supervised driving each week.

The program is funded by TAC and managed by the Victorian Government.

Who should apply?

Young people aged between 16 and 21 who:

  • hold a current learners permit
  • have no access to a suitable vehicle or support to learn to drive
  • have a connection to Port Phillip, Stonnington or Bayside local government areas
  • hold Australian/New Zealand citizenship or Permanent Resident/Humanitarian/Refugee visas.

Which areas do we cover?

We have strong connections with:

  • City of Port Phillip
  • City of Stonnington
  • City of Bayside

The program will:

  • provide you with access to a trained volunteer mentor who can provide access to supervised driving sessions in a car that is provided by MCM
  • provide you with the opportunity to reach your 120 hours of supervised driving
  • support you to build the confidence and skills needed to get your probationary licence.
