Social Impact – Why we do it
CQ exists to have a significant, tangible social impact, which we measure in three ways:
- CQ supports capacity building initiatives in diverse young people
- CQ develops diverse young leaders
- CQ fosters greater diversity and inclusion and promotes better business outcomes in the broader community.
CQ was born out of the work of the Western Young People’s Independent Network; a youth led advocacy and empowerment organisation comprised of refugee and migrant young people in Melbourne’s West.
In 2014 the organisation faced a very real challenge: to continue its important work a more financially sustainable model of operating was needed. Until then, WYPIN had relied exclusively on philanthropic and government funding, which was irregular, uncertain and highly competitive.
The WYPIN Committee of Management reflected on the rich, authentic cultural capital that its members possessed. It scoped the feasibility of commercialising this knowledge and expertise through providing services to build organisational cultural capability. A business plan was developed and start-up capital was secured to establish ‘CQ Cultural Consulting’.
In 2015, CQ was launched with a flagship but limited service offering of training. We quickly recognised training was just one intervention that clients needed. We swiftly expanded our services to include consulting, research and resource development. This transformation has enabled the organisation to experience significant growth and early success.
