Whittlesea

The area

The municipality of Whittlesea faces a variety of challenges. While newer areas in this area lacks community infrastructure, and older, more settled neighbourhoods are beset by intergenerational unemployment. Other issues include early school leaving, a high prevalence of mental health problems, low levels of physical activity and a high incidence of preventable health problems.

Our innovative solutions include:

Creeds Farm Living and Learning Centre

In partnership VicUrban, the Hornery Institute, Whittlesea Council, the North East Neighbourhood House Network and the Uniting Church, we are planning a new living and learning centre.

Situated in a new housing estate in Epping North this new centre is a vehicle for community empowerment. Our vision is for the local community to run the living and learning centre.

Whittlesea Community Futures

Funded through A Fairer Victoria we set up Whittlesea Community Futures to engage and empower the community in decision-making. The group will be responsible for much of the social planning taking place across the whole region.

Partnership between Whittlesea Council, Melbourne Citymission and Lalor Park Primary School

Through ‘Best Start' and ‘Growing Communities Thriving Children' funding we are developing, documenting and evaluating a ‘school as a hub' model at Lalor Park Primary School. The initiative invests in the early years and values the importance of community connection and resilience.
