Give a gift this Christmas

21 November 2016 - 22 December 2016

For many people, Christmas can be a difficult time. Due to acute financial hardship, disability, illness, homelessness or social isolation, many will go without Christmas lunch or gifts this year. For some, having nothing to give their children or family can cause significant pain and anguish.

This festive season, we are asking for gift donations to help those in need. Imagine how it would feel to have nothing to give your loved ones on Christmas Day?

By choosing to give a gift, you’ll be doing more than putting a present in someone’s hands – you’ll be helping someone gain a sense of belonging.

Who needs a gift this Christmas?

Melbourne City Mission works with those in need throughout Victoria and this Christmas, we hope to get something special to all the people we support. That’s no small task but we know it’s possible with the generosity of supporters like you.

How to give a gift this Christmas

To give a gift, choose from one of the options below:

  1. Purchase toys online

We’ve selected a number of suitable toys for children and young people. All you have to do is click here to choose the toy(s) you’d like to purchase and we’ll arrange to wrap and distribute them.

  2. Purchase a gift voucher

Gift vouchers are a very practical gift for teenagers, adults and families. View a list of voucher gift ideas here or choose a retailer who is widely available across Victoria. Please post to:

  3. Set up a Christmas Giving Tree at work or school

Get together and collect books and toys at your school or workplace. If your school or organisation would like to set up a Christmas Tree and collect gifts for Melbourne City Mission, please download our poster and gift tags and call us on 1300 364 507 prior to 9 December to notify us of your participation.

While we appreciate your generosity we do ask that all gifts are newunwrapped and non-perishable. No second hand or food gifts please. Visit our gift ideas here.
  4. Purchase a gift and drop it off

If you prefer to visit the shops and hand pick something yourself, please choose a gift for a child, teenager or adult and we’ll make sure it goes to an appropriate recipient.

What gifts to give?

young girl smiling and opening christmas presentWe work with a diverse range of people in need right across the community. We need gifts for girls and boys, men and women of all ages. Gifts are distributed to the people we support throughout all of our services, including children, disability, homelessness, palliative care, justice, employment and educational services.

For young children, we’ve hand-picked a wide selection of toys and set up an online store to make it easier for you to decide. We’ve also prepared a list of gift ideas if you’d like a bit of help choosing your gift. All gifts will be sorted and distributed by our staff who understand the needs of the people we support. You can be assured that your gift or voucher will go to an appropriate recipient and will put a smile on their face.

Send your gift by Friday 9 December

All gifts received by Friday 9 December will be distributed in time for Christmas. We know from previous years that the best outcome for the people we support is when they receive their gift by mid-December. We will endeavour to distribute all gifts received after this date prior to Christmas Day and where this is not possible your gift will be provided for birthdays or special occasions throughout 2017.

Donating cash

If you would like to make a tax-deductible cash donation to our Christmas Appeal instead of giving a gift, you can do so. Find out how your cash donation can make a big difference this Christmas by clicking here. Alternatively, donate here now.

We appreciate your generosity this Christmas. Please call us on 1300 364 507 for any queries.
