Victoria’s leading youth homelessness service provider, Melbourne City Mission (MCM), has hosted a tour with key philanthropists at the redevelopment of its highly innovative facility located at 19 King St, Melbourne.
Frontyard is an innovative, world-first, fully integrated youth crisis accommodation and service model designed to reach and support the most challenging group of young people experiencing homelessness across Melbourne. The redeveloped site which is costing more than $8.0 million dollars, is designed to meet the complex and dynamic needs of the most marginalised young people experiencing homelessness in Melbourne’s CBD.
This model used by MCM’s Frontyard involves offering youth refuge crisis accommodation and a fully integrated multi-disciplinary support program covering education, health and justice programs with 24/7 staffing, specialist support in mental health, drugs and alcohol, and medium to long-term accommodation.
Representatives from Gandel Philanthropy, Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation, Andrew and Geraldine Buxton Foundation and Joe White Bequest toured the building site and received an in depth briefing from the project manager on the progress of the extensive build. A short reception was then hosted by Board Director John Jeffreys and CEO Vicki Sutton.
MCM CEO Vicki Sutton stated that “This exciting re-build project is proceeding at a fast pace and it’s important to keep all our amazing contributors engaged and updated with tours of the work site to show them directly where their funds are making a great impact on reducing youth homelessness”
Various philanthropists have contributed to the project including the founding partners of The Peter and Lyndy White Foundation.
