About our service

Our Melbourne City Mission L2P Program is a community based program that provides assistance to young people who face significant barriers which hinder on their ability to complete their 120 hours of on-road experience. The L2P Program is supported by trained volunteer mentors. 

L2P is an innovative community based program developed to provide assistance to young people, who face significant barriers in completing their 120 hours of on-road driving experience. The program is funded by TAC and administered through VicRoads.

How does it work?

Young people will be matched with trained volunteer mentors who will support them to attain 120 hours of supervised driving.

 The goal is for young people to build the confidence and skills to obtain their probationary licence.

The volunteer mentors are provided with intensive training by VicRoads and also undergo additional mandatory training with Melbourne City Mission in order to provide a quality program for young people.

Eligible young people will be provided with a minimum of one hour of supervised driving per week.

Who should apply?

  • Young people aged between 16 and 20
  • Hold a current learners permit
  • Have no access or support to learn to drive

We have strong connections with

  • City of Port Phillip
  • City of Stonnington
  • City of Bayside

The program will

  • Provide young people with access to a trained volunteer mentor who can provide access to supervised training session.
  • Provide young people with the opportunity to reach 120 hours.
  • Support young people to build their confidence and skills to obtain their probationary licence.

How can I or my client access this support?

To access this program a learner driver application form must be completed to ensure eligibility. Referrals can be made by:

  • Community Agencies
  • Schools
  • Case Managers
  • Self-referral

Once the learner driver application form is completed and received (see Downloads section below), the L2P Program Facilitator will make contact with the young person to schedule an interview time.
