People become homeless for a variety of reasons usually as the result of many long-standing issues such as poverty, family violence or breakdown, leaving school early, mental illness or drug and alcohol abuse.
At Melbourne City Mission, we link young people, adults, and families to housing, education, training, employment and social support. Across the state of Victoria, we are the largest provider of homelessness services to young people under 24 and are also the biggest provider of homelessness services to adults and families (aged from 18 to 45 years) across the northwest metropolitan region of Melbourne.
Our role is to meet the needs of each individual and provide a service that addresses their circumstances. We work with people who do not have a permanent place to live or those who are at risk of becoming homeless to resolve or improve their situation. Our goal is to provide the support necessary to help these people lead a life of independence.
Below you will find further information on what types of support we provide to both young people and adults, who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
